Byworth Team Raises Over £600 for Sue Ryder Manorlands Hospice at Dragon Boat Festival
Full Steam Ahead - Dragon Boat Success
The Byworth Boilers team swapped the boiler house for the water recently as colleagues took part in the annual Dragon Boat Festival, raising more than £600 for Sue Ryder Manorlands Hospice.
Competing under the team name "Full Steam Ahead", our crew put in a fantastic performance throughout the day, overcoming challenging weather, tough competition and a shrinking team to finish an impressive 5th overall.
The day got off to a strong start with a respectable 1 minute 18 second first race. As confidence and teamwork grew, the team found their rhythm and powered through to an excellent 1 minute 11 second finish, securing a place in the final of the non-elite competition.
Despite being a few rowers short by the end of the event, Full Steam Ahead battled hard in the final race, finishing second and securing 5th place overall. It was a brilliant achievement against some experienced teams and a testament to the determination and teamwork shown by everyone involved.
The event wasn't just about racing. It was an opportunity to support an incredible local charity, with colleagues, family, friends and supporters all getting behind the team throughout the day. Thanks to the generosity of everyone who donated, cheered from the riverbank or took part, Byworth has now raised more than £600 for Sue Ryder Manorlands Hospice.
Sue Ryder Manorlands Hospice provides expert palliative care and compassionate support for people living with life-limiting illnesses and their families across our local community. We are proud to support the vital work they do.
