Every year on June 23rd, organisations across the globe come together to mark International Women in Engineering Day (INWED), a celebration of the amazing work women are doing in engineering and similar fields, and a chance to inspire future generations.

At Byworth Boilers, we’re proud to support this inspirational day and showcase the variety of roles and careers withing the engineering sector.

Engineering Is More Than You Think

When most people think of engineering, they often picture someone in overalls with a spanner in hand. And while hands-on engineering is absolutely vital to our business, it’s far from the whole story.

Engineering is a complex, multi-disciplinary field, much like boiler manufacturing. Our success depends on a wide range of roles that work together to design, build, test, manage, and support our products. These include:

• Design and technical roles
• Production planning and coordination
• Purchasing and supply chain
• Quality assurance and compliance
• Sales, customer service and project management
• Marketing, finance, and admin

Many of these roles are held by talented women whose skills and contributions make a huge difference every day, reminding us that you don’t need to be an engineer to be part of engineering. Whether it’s managing materials, supporting operations, or ensuring quality standards are met, each role in our organisation is a critical part of the process.

Why It Matters

INWED is more than a celebration, it’s also a moment of reflection. Women remain underrepresented in engineering and manufacturing, and many still don’t see a clear path into technical industries. By shining a light on the variety of roles available and the women already thriving in them, we can challenge outdated perceptions and help open doors for others.
